We knew Terri Maize, the creator and owner of Hacienda Maize Fire-Roasted Jammin’ Jellies, understood us & what Ship & Dip is all about when she first mentioned that in her opinion, condiments are “for elevating the food experience.” She nailed it. Terri’s Fire-Roasted Jalapeño Diablo Jammin’ Jelly debuted in Ship & Dip’s very first box, back in December/January of last year. She believed in our start-up when we had no customers, no website, and we were just a concept. That takes a special business owner, and for that, we are forever grateful to Terri, and the fellow producers from our first month’s box (Don Anderson of Preacher Boy’s BBQ Sauce and Tony & Torie Cubbage of Mom’s Family Kitchen Salsa).

We had the privilege of interviewing Terri Maize over the phone, and she is as passionate about her Hacienda Maize Jammin’ Jellies as she is about agriculure and her city, Denver, Colorado. She told us that the original recipe for the pepper jellies, which began decades ago, included canned green chiles and Boone’s Farm Apple Wine. The recipe has come a long way, proven by its multi-award winner status. This Jammin’ Jelly earned 2nd Place at the 2014 Scovie Awards and 1st Place at the 2013 Chile Pepper Awards. Hacienda Maize uses all natural, gluten-free and cholesterol-free ingredients. The fruit pectin is all natural as well. Read more about the company and its history in the Producer Insider.

What’s our take on this super spicy jalapeño jelly? A little goes a long way with this full-flavored jelly, meaning the 11.4 oz jar will last you many, many meals. It is spicy, so if you typically enjoy a milder flavor, cool it down over some cream cheese, mixed in with plain yogurt, or plan on using a smaller amount in recipes of your choice. I put this on every grilled cheese and most sandwiches that I make, for that little something extra.
